On this Friday night, the bar in the university town was particularly lively once again. As a popular meeting place for students looking to unwind after a stressful week, it attracted numerous guests. In short, the place was packed.
That’s exactly what Paul and Noah had in mind: to relax and have some fun. They were good friends—Paul was studying mathematics, and Noah was studying computer science. Both were passionate about their fields but often lamented the lack of women in their disciplines.
They sat in a cozy corner, joking that it was about time they met some nice female students, when Noah suddenly spotted something.
“Look over there at the bar. What do you think of those two? They study here too—I’m sure I’ve seen one of them at the university before.”
“They’re cute, but they look deep in conversation and probably want to be left alone.”
As they would later find out, their names were Anna and Lena. Anna had long, brown hair that shimmered in the bar’s dim light, while Lena had a radiant smile that seemed to brighten the entire place. They were exactly the kind of women Paul and Noah found attractive—lively, confident, and easygoing.

“How do you know they want to be left alone? Maybe they’re just as bored as we are. What do you think—should we try the old trick with the made-up story again?”
When it came to this trick, they were a well-practiced team. The concept was simple but effective: one of them would approach the women and start a conversation. After a few sentences, he would invent a completely made-up story about his friend, who was still sitting at the table, clueless about the tale being told. It was a game they had played many times before—and it worked every single time.
Paul took a sip of his beer and gave Noah a meaningful look.
“Alright, bro, but I’ll go this time.”
Noah nodded, a little nervous, and took another sip of his drink. “Just don’t talk any nonsense! Only good things, please.”
Paul stood up, straightened his shirt, and grinned.
“Yeah, yeah, don’t worry about it!”
Paul approached the two women with a confident but non-intrusive smile. Anna and Lena were deep in conversation, their voices lively and animated. He waited for a brief pause and then seized the opportunity to chime in.
